Approaching the canvas…

When approaching a canvas, I am full of anticipation, excitement and a certainty that there is an adventure awaiting. Through layers of collage, paint, and sanding, I find my way into the painting. There the colors are chosen and play continues. Sometimes themes appear and definite focus emerges. Other times, I just keep playing with mark making, hiding secrets, layer upon layer of color all the while taking risks along the way. With persistence, hopefully, I finally “know” the work is finished. (Not always, but more on that later!)

I hope you will find my work draws you in at first glance for a closer look. It is here, on closer inspection, you will find areas of surprise color, shapes, and marks. Have a look!
