Can I be Creative?

The answer is a resounding YES! Some say only a chosen few are creative. This is so not true. There is no special gift of creativity. But you must be energized by the desire to create, and have a willingness to take chances, to play and experiment.

Every artist started out as a beginner. It is not a matter of skill level, for skills can be learned. Nor is it a matter of education and theories, those too can be learned (and maybe not necessary at all).

Even if you are not an “artist”, you are likely already doing many creative things. Needlework, gardening, sewing, woodworking, scrapbooking, cooking. Think of it…..we “create a lovely dinner party”, or we “create a beautiful garden”, we “create such a colorful ensemble”, or we “create a supportive workspace”. In fact, creating is a part of our daily lives.

It is no great leap from these daily activities to creating “art”. Your desire to express and willingness to learn through practice and play is all that is necessary.

But this doesn’t happen overnight or in a great “aha” moment. There is no flash of lightning and our creativity is unleashed. The fact is, people who create are good workers (players, experimenters, risk takers, self motivators). That is good news! Creativity is achievable and abundant.

Once we embrace the knowledge that creative abilities already exist in you and me, our options can be unlimited!
